Catherine has had a lifetime of dress-making and sewing for herself, family and friends. When her eldest son was ready for his very first pair of shoes, she decided to try to make them for him. They were a success and this saw the start of a small shoe making business that flourished until Catherine decided to further her education and subsequently qualified as a physiotherapist.
Throughout her career as a physiotherapist, Catherine continued to sew and always hoped that one day she would learn how to make kilts. An opportunity arose when she found a kilt making course in Perth focusing on “box pleat” kilts. Catherine completed this course in November 2013.
She was very keen to learn the skills of making the more traditional “knife pleat” kilt. This became possible when she learnt about the Edinburgh Kiltmakers Academy. Catherine applied for a place on their course and was accepted. She successfully completed the course, and has already undertaken several commissions.
